The thrift fairy

Wow, doesn't time fly? My last entry was at the beginning of the month and now it is almost Christmas. Shopping centres are full of busy people on the hunt for presents. To be honest, I would prefer to buy presents during the sales if I could. Makes more sense money-wise, right?

The thrift fairy has been good to me recently and yesterday I bought this Canon lens for £3.00. Who can turn down such a great offer? I spent a lot of yesterday taking snaps of my beautiful new dress which I bought a few weeks ago from another charity shop for £4.00. It was actually from the kids section and is aged 9-10, but because of the babydoll shape it fits bigger sizes. It's a wonderful corduroy material and reminds me of Christmas lol. The lace collar is actually detachable and was given to me by my wonderful friend Julia. It's the perfect match, don't you think?

Mystic ball

Sorry for the delay in posting. I have been feeling very down in the dumps recently and have been slobbing around in my PJ's eating pringles.
Here is a beautiful ring which I picked up for £1.00 in the Eleanor Lions hospice charity shop recently. The colours are amazing and change colours from certain angles, from clear to blue, to pinks and reds. It reminds me of a mystical ball or something. Such a precious little piece and I was so happy to have found it for a great price because I know a lot of charity shops price jewellery up quite a bit. It's a tiny bit too big for me but I still wear it. I am used to wearing big rings, even my engagement ring is still too big after having it sized smaller to a custom size.

Birthday and tea

Yesterday me and Mike went to the park and then for afternoon tea as today I turned 22. We were the only ones in the whole restaurant which was quite eerie but nice and relaxing in comparison to other restaurants where you are pretty much sitting on peoples laps listening to their conversations. We also did some charity shopping and plenty of walking so it was nice to unwind with a cup of tea at the end of the day.

Decorating

Me and Mike have been decorating our bedroom. The lighting was so beautiful on Sunday, I decided to take a few photos.

Thrifty designer goods

I picked up this beautiful Vivienne Westwood purse for only £4.50 from the charity shop British Heart Foundation. My lovely friend Sara tipped me off about it one evening and the following morning I made the mad dash to claim it. It has a couple of marks and has clearly been used but I don't mind. I remember I once read a story about someone finding a Vivienne Westwood ring in a charity shop for £5 and never thought anything remotely similar would happen to me so I am very grateful for this purchase.

I also ventured to a local jumble sale. I don't usually have much luck with jumble sales but as boot sales are coming to a close I am trying to go to more jumble sales to feed my thrifty addiction. I spotted a huge table of 20p clothing but after about 10 minutes of hunting through and arm ache I gave up. Luckily I didn't leave empty handed and found this 1980's Chanel no.19 atomiser for a mere 30p! Despite the bottle inside being empty I just couldn't walk away.

Outfit of the day

White lace dress-Topshop, Bag-Vivienne Westwood, Navy velvet boots-Topshop.

This is what I wore last night to go shopping with a friend, all I bought was a cup though (haha!). Again, I am wearing that Topshop lace dress, paired with the navy velvet boots from Topshop which I mentioned in a previous post. The bag is from Vivienne Westwood, it's a really great bag as it comes with a long strap so it can be worn over the shoulder like a satchel, or as a handbag like in the photo, and is also quite spacious -Yay!

Dr Martens

I have always been a fan of Dr Martens, ever since I went through the whole 'grunge' phase at age 13, walking around thinking I was so 'misunderstood' in my baggy band hoody and jumping into mosh pits. It's strange how times have changed and how they are considered fashionable now in comparison to 8 years ago. Nevertheless they are amazing and despite having quite a high price tag, it is worth every penny because these boots last for YEARS! I am telling you, I'll be wearing these when I am 70 years old at this rate. I love them so much I have 4 pairs! Used to be 5 but I sold my dark purple metallic ones a few years back. I have a dark pink pair which I have worn to Japan and back (literally!), a limited edition Hello Kitty pair in white with blue soles and a red bow on the sides (Did I mention I have her tattooed to my wrist and that I am obsessed?), a standard black pair and my latest edition is a pair of baby pink ones which I picked up at a boot sale last week for £10. Very chuffed about that as I have been wanting some baby pink ones to replace my battered dark pink ones and now I have them and didn't have to shed out £60 yay! Happy days!

Bowler hat

I bought this bowler hat from Camden the other day. I have been searching high and low for a bowler hat that fits my large Blythe-like head, so when I stumbled across this one for only £10 I bought it without hesitation. It originally had a rather ugly corsage attached to it but the lovely girl in the shop replaced it with this cute polka dot ribbon which is more my style. H&M did a equally cute bowler hat for £7.99 with black ribbon but because I am slightly behind the times, they only had left over stock of size small and medium which was no good for me. Anyway, I am very happy with this purchase and will hopefully get some outfit shots of me wearing it at some point.

Outfit of the day

Cardigan-Camden, White lace dress-Topshop, Creepers-Office.

A somewhat awful quality photo taken on my iphone 4. My apologies for that, and also for my attempt of using an app to try and make the photo look slightly more decent by adding a vintage tone to it.
This is my bedroom, you may recognise the floorboards from other photos on my blog. My house is currently being rewired so we have had to take the carpet and furniture away so the electricians can get to the floorboards. The downside of this is that me and Mike are having to sleep in the spare room and our clothing and possessions are in boxes in various parts of the house. Rewiring the whole house is a long and tedious process. The only upside is that my bedroom makes great photo opportunities now that there is no furniture in it.
I love my lace Topshop dress, but the length is very annoying. I have to wear shorts with it as it is just too short. Bare in mind I am 5,5-5,6 so am not really tall or anything. The creepers I bought second hand online, they were in brand new condition (originally from Office) and only cost me around £8. I did have another pair of creepers which were black with pink leopard print but I stupidly sold them a few years ago...little did I know that they were going to be very in fashion years later. Let's just say I sold them for ridiculously cheap and regret it.
Oh and say hi to my cat!

Witching hour

I wanted a pair of boots with a heel that would be suitable for everyday wear, so when I spotted these in Topshop I knew they would be perfect. They are very easy to walk in, but I worry that it will be hard to match with them with my clothes, so it would have been even better if they had come in black, but I still like the navy. I love the velvet texture and they have a very 'witchy' feel to them, which is great for the forthcoming autumn weather.

Outfit of the day

Faux leather jacket- Ebay, Polka dot dress- Topshop, Dr Martens- Ebay.

So it's about time I did an 'outfit of the day' post. I have been meaning to do one of these for so long now, so I am glad I have finally gotten round to it.
The faux leather jacket was a recent purchase of mine from Ebay. It is actually a kid's jacket age 10-11 and only cost around £10 including the postage, it's the perfect fit and I can't stop wearing it. I never used to dig the whole leather jacket look and have only recently converted. I think owning one is a staple in every girl's wardrobe because it completes an outfit and looks great with cute dresses. I am so pleased with this buy!

Regret

I am a very indecisive person. It takes me so long to decide anything. I went through a phase where I would buy items without much thought, and although nowadays I have calmed down on the compulsive buying, it can still backfire on me with my regret from leaving items behind at boot sales such as a beautiful Chanel silk scarf for £1. 'Why did you not buy it?' I hear you ask...Well, because this was around the same time I decided I needed to stop buying random items, I thought I would leave it. The main question running through my mind was 'Is it authentic?'. The couple selling it were elderly, and perhaps the lady was quite a fashionista back in the day. I doubt an old couple would sell fake Chanel, but obviously I didn't think about that at the time. I walked away from the scarf...and to this day I still kick myself over it. Everytime I see a bag of old scarfs at a boot sale I always take a look in hope of finding that Chanel scarf again.

Charity shop purchase

I love going to charity shops, although I don't really do much charity shopping in summer as I go to boot sales instead which are 10 times cheaper. I get slightly put off by charity shops selling Primark clothing for £3. But if you look hard enough you will find a gem of a bargain like this beautiful lace collared blouse for £2.95 in the Ellenor Hospice Care shop. It's very sheer so will have to wear a vest top underneath but is still such a great buy. It will look great with the collar poking out of jumpers and cardigans in winter.
I am really hoping to get some outfit posts going, things have been so hectic recently which is a huge change to usual.

Boot sale finds

Just a few items I picked up from boot sale again this morning. I did buy more than just this but I didn't photograph it all as it was rather boring, camera film for 30p each, brand new Shu Uemura eyelashes for £1.00 and a large bottle of Lush tea tree toner for 50p.

Now onto the more interesting finds...

The iconic Kate Moss pansy print dress for Topshop. I was in so much shock to find this at a boot sale and as most of you know, this dress goes on Ebay for a pretty penny so I snapped this up right away for only £3.00. It is 3 sizes too big for me but once you pin the bust it isn't too bad.

I was really happy to find this rather morbid piece at the boot sale for only £1.00, as I've been after something like this for a little while now. It features a dead moth and flowers as if the moth is perching on them, but the only down side is that it does not have a loop to attach it to a chain as it broke. Any ideas on how I could attach this to a necklace?

Boot sale finds

This is what I keep my little treasures in, and it only cost me £1. It's quite large as well with plenty of room.
